About Wendy

Nothing has the power to deliver calm and literally bring us down to earth from our busy lives, like Mother Nature. I’m reminded of this each time I’m in the great outdoors and aim to carry some of that tranquility and stillness into my work.

"I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles".

My favourite themes are solitary landscapes like in Untamed, a series of Nordic Wilderness Landscapes and Floral Still Lifes like Forever Summer.

I grew up in The Netherlands near the tulip fields and the world’s largest flower auction where as a young girl I sold flowers in my local neighbourhood. In a kind of full circle moment I completed my certificate 3 in floristry in 2022.  All the floral arrangements in my photos are of my own creation.

Sydney has been my home since 1991 (but for a 4 year stint in London). I share my life with my partner and our two beautiful (rescue) dogs.

In September 2023 my work “Roam” was a finalist in the Look! Prize and is currently on display at the Museum of Australian Photography.

Artist Statement

I have a desire for my art to communicate the awe and wonder that I experience each time I really take the time to actually see nature around me.

Flowers are my muse. There is so much symbolism attached to them. Even wilting ones have their own beauty and may represent the end of a cycle and the beginning of a new one.

Paradoxically in the age of the internet, our  world appears to contract around us in an ever tighter bubble. We tend to experience everything through a tiny screen instead and are often consumed by the 24/7 hour news cycle, social media and celebrity culture.

Flowers can be a reminder of the impermanence of life and serve as a prompt to stay grounded in the present moment.

My aspiration is for my work to elicit feelings of optimism, joy and abundance.
